An ancient being from and ancient time, the only remnants of her are the monuments within the Markov grounds. If the stories are true, she is the progenitor of this line of vampires blessed by the gods.
Hints of her history and power are scattered throughout Mercadia, be it from this noble family themselves or the objects shes touched. Speaking to which, hints of an ancient power under her control came into the Orders sight, but what does this mean and how does it connect to their quest?
Rafe in particular searches for more about her, the name coming to him in a very personal way. And the only answer he received thus far were the words “Find Me…”
Through recent adventures, it is found that Melrave was actually one of the first Dragonborn, sister to the Raven Queen - tasked with keeping order in the material plane while her sister looked after the dream realm.
Melrave and the Shattering of the Etherium
Melrave is revealed to have played a pivotal role in the events that led to Magnusalareniel’s imprisonment within the Hedron Network near the Nexus, the point where the ley lines converge. This location, at the heart of the network, is the same central chamber where Melrave and Magnusalareniel once stood beside the great Etherium gate.
In a vision experienced through the Etherium, Marissa witnesses a robed figure placing the crystal upon an altar. As light spreads from it, ancient runes across a massive tablet flare to life. A blade is brought down against the crystal, but the Etherium resists the strike. Only when a hammer drives the blade deeper does the crystal finally shear apart, creating the fragment later associated with Melrave.
Melrave is seen as a striking, almost otherworldly figure: white-haired, pale as marble, adorned with crimson roses around her neck and shoulders. She wears dark plate over a white gown, with thorn-like adornments crowning her head. Before her, the great archway pulses like a heartbeat, filling the cavern with lavender light.
As she carves a piece from the Etherium, Melrave declares:
“By their will, I take this so that we may be free from chaos’ reign.”
Another voice, identified as Magnus, urges her to act quickly. Though he does not doubt the strength of her legion, he warns that the forces of chaos are drawing closer. Magnus chooses to remain behind as the final line of defense should Melrave fail.
Melrave answers:
“I understand, Magnus. Your sacrifice will not be forgotten…”
This moment reframes Melrave’s actions as both a desperate act of protection and the beginning of a devastating betrayal. She took the fragment of Etherium from the Nexus and later used it upon the pedestal, the same place Quinn would eventually discover it and unknowingly bring it to the attention of The Academy.
As Melrave carries the Etherium away from the central chamber, Marissa senses overwhelming grief within the memory: the sorrow of losing someone deeply beloved, perhaps a close friend or loved one. Beneath that sadness, however, lies something darker—a profound feeling of deception and guilt. This suggests that while Melrave may have believed she was acting to save the world from chaos, she also understood that her choice would leave Magnusalareniel trapped within the Nexus.
The vision implies that Melrave did not imprison Magnusalareniel out of cruelty, but out of fear, duty, and desperation. The force threatening to emerge through the gate was believed to be greater even than the dragons, and Melrave may have seen no other way to prevent it from breaking through. Even so, her actions left her burdened by regret. She carried the Etherium away knowing that Magnus remained behind, and that the cost of stopping chaos’ reign was the abandonment of someone who trusted her.
